Also, when I ran ifconfig to find out my IP address, it started with 10.0. The problem is, when I run arp-scan or netdiscover, it doesn't capture the kioptrix machine. In the left pane of the Preferences window, select Network to access global VirtualBox network settings, then double click your existing NAT network to edit the settings (you can also add a new network or delete an existing network by clicking the + or x icons). Both Kioptrix and my main Kali VMs have networking adapter set to NAT. I have also set up a Kioptrix level 1 machine on my VirtualBox. When I run apt-get update & apt-get upgrade, it returns me with a bunch of error messages which either starts with "E: failed to fetch " or "Err: 404 Not Found " It shows me the same error message when I try to install tools using apt install. The result also says "Too many fingerprints match this host to give specific OS details)
When I run nmap scan:, I don't get results on the open ports Apparently you are supposed to get the result which shows that port 80, 22, 443 are opened. Network adapter setting: Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop ( NAT) I am trying to exploit some retired machines named "Lame" on Hack The Box and ran into some issues which I think is related to my networking settings. I am a noob hacker who just started the pentesting journey using Kali VM set up on VirtualBox.
